FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (September 13,2023) –– The Kimmel Cultural Campus presents Disney Pixar's Coco Live-To-Film Concert in Verizon Hall on October 15, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. Featuring a screening of the complete film, Oscar® and Grammy®-winning composer Michael Giacchino’s musical score will be performed live by the 20-member Orquesta Folclórico Nacional de México.

Disney Pixar’s vibrant tale of family, fun, and adventure follows an aspiring young musician named Miguel who is accidentally transported to the Land of the Dead. The film was praised for its animation, voice acting, music, visuals, and respect for Mexican culture. It grossed over $807 million worldwide, becoming the 16th highest-grossing animated film ever at the time of its release. Coco features the Oscar-winning song “Remember Me” by Oscar-winning songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, plus additional songs co-written by Germaine Franco and co-director & screenwriter Adrian Molina.

Coco was a groundbreaking film highlighting an underrepresented community in a vibrant and heartfelt way,” said Frances Egler, Vice President of Theatrical Programming & Presentations on the Kimmel Cultural Campus. “Live accompaniment from the incredible Orquesta Folclórico Nacional de México breathes freshness and new perspective into this feel-good hit.”

About the Movie:

Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel (voice of Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (voice of Benjamin Bratt). Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Héctor (voice of Gael García Bernal), and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history. Disney and Pixar’s Coco is directed by Lee Unkrich (Toy Story 3), co-directed by Adrian Molina (story artist Monsters University), and produced by Darla K. Anderson (Toy Story 3).

Coco received two awards at the 90th Academy Awards® and numerous other accolades. The film was chosen by the National Board of Review as the Best Animated Film of 2017. Coco is the first film with a nine-figure budget to feature an all-Latino principal cast.

Composer Michael Giacchino has credits that feature some of the most popular and acclaimed film projects in recent history, including The Incredibles, War for the Planet of the Apes, Ratatouille, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Rouge One: A Star Wars Story. His 2009 score for the Pixar hit Up earned him an Oscar, Golden Globe, BAFTA, Broadcast Film Critics’ Choice Award, and two Grammy® Awards.
