ENSEMBLE ARTS PHILLY PRESENTS
DYNAMIC AND VIRTUOSIC GYPSY JAZZ GROUP,
DJANGO FESTIVAL ALLSTARS,
FEATURING DORADO SCHMITT WITH HIS SONS
SAMSON & AMATI,
 NOVEMBER 16, 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(October 3, 2024) – Ensemble Arts Philly is thrilled to announce the return of renowned gypsy jazz group Django Festival Allstars featuring legend Dorado Schmitt and sons Samson & Amati at the Perelman Theater on November 16, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. Known for their unmatched energy and phenomenal displays of talent, the Django Festival Allstars will highlight the musical mastery of the renowned Schmitt, delivering a night of exceptional music to move the soul.

"Dorado Schmitt and his sons have long thrilled audiences worldwide with their mesmerizing melodies and unparalleled guitar virtuosity," said Frances Egler, Vice President of Programming and Presentations. "We are honored to provide a platform for their phenomenal talents once again, fortifying Philadelphia's vibrant cultural scene and our commitment to promoting a diverse array of world music."

Reinhardt’s unmistakable cool and jumping joie de vivre has made him an icon for a list of luminaries, including guitar greats Carlos Santana and Eric Clapton. Jimi Hendrix named his Band of Gypsys in tribute to Reinhardt, and Willie Nelson adopted his influence in playing country swing.

The star musicians of the Django Festival Allstars have grown into a brilliantly cohesive group that has performed at top concert halls and festivals to standing ovations. The group’s music transports listeners to Paris in the 1920s and ’30s, when gitane music filled the air and Django was king. The Django Festival Allstars bring Reinhardt’s music into the 21st century, honoring traditions and standards while adding their own interpretations, arrangements, and original compositions. They swing like crazy and will break your heart with a ballad.

Django Festival Allstars’ performance is a part of Ensemble Arts Philly’s robust 2024-25 Jazz Series. Other featured upcoming performances include Afro-Cuban All Stars (October 19, 2024, Miller Theater); Pink Martini featuring China Forbes (November 2, 2024, Marian Anderson Hall); Boney James (November 9, 2024, Miller Theater); Orrin Evans and the Captain Black Big Band (November 29, 2024, Perelman Theater); Samara Joy: Joyful Holiday featuring the McLendon Family (December 23, 2024, Marian Anderson Hall); Somi (May 9, 2025, Perelman Theater), and Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis (June 15, 2025, Marian Anderson Hall).
