Ensemble Arts Philly and Live Nation Present

Mike Birbiglia

August 29, 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (August 29, 2024) – Ensemble Arts Philly, in association with Live Nation, is pleased to present multi award-winning comedian, Mike Birbiglia, in his newest show, Please Stop the Ride, at the Academy of Music on October 11, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. Audiences can expect Birbiglia's signature fusion of comedy and storytelling, wrapped in themes such as family, ambition, and the ironies of life.

“A successful comedian boasts a uniqueness of storytelling and superb delivery,” said Frances Egler, Vice President of Theatrical Programming and Presentations. “Mike Birbiglia’s comedic style weaves his own personal experiences into the narrative to create something more than just a generic night of laughter; it’s a behind-the-curtain view into his life, generating intimacy along the way.”

Birbiglia is a comedian, writer, director, and actor who has performed his award-winning solo shows worldwide—from the Sydney Opera House to the West End of London to Broadway. His five solo shows—Sleepwalk With Me, My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend, Thank God For Jokes, The New One, and The Old Man & The Pool—enjoyed successful runs on and off Broadway and became hit Netflix comedy specials. The shows merge storytelling and comedy in a way that The New York Times has called “Birbiglian.”

Birbiglia also wrote, directed, and starred in the films Sleepwalk with Me and Don’t Think Twice. As an actor, Birbiglia has appeared in the films Trainwreck, The Fault in Our Stars, Popstar, and A Man Called Otto, as well as TV roles in Orange Is the New Black and Billions. He hosts the podcast Mike Birbiglia's Working It Out.

Other featured upcoming performances include An Evening with Fran Lebowitz (September 7, 2024, Miller Theater); The Life and Music of George Michael (September 19, 2024, Miller Theater); Leslie Jones: LIVE (September 21, 2024, Miller Theater); Hannah Gadsby: WOOF!
