ENSEMBLE ARTS PHILLY PRESENTS
THE THOUGHT-PROVOKING AND
WITTY HISTORY PODCAST, THE REST IS HISTORY, LIVE ON TOUR, FEATURING HOSTS
TOM HOLLAND AND DOMINIC SANDBROOK,
NOVEMBER 14, 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (October 3, 2024) – Ensemble Arts Philly is thrilled to present the world’s most popular history podcast, The Rest Is History, live on tour with longtime historians Tom Holland and Dominic Sandbrook at the Miller Theater on November 14, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. Join Holland and Sandbrook for an unforgettable evening as they interrogate the past and attempt to de-tangle the present.

On The Rest Is History, Holland and Sandbrook discuss every historical topic under the sun, brilliantly distilling major events in human history. The podcast is the highest ranked UK history podcast on Spotify and Apple, in the top 10 in the US charts, and has received the 2024 President’s Medal from the British Academy – the first time this has been awarded to a podcast.

“With their engaging approach to unraveling the past, the hosts of The Rest Is History bring the forgotten to the present in a way that is both educational and profoundly entertaining,” said Frances Egler, Vice President of Theatrical Programming and Presentations. “Holland and Sandbrook join our Ensemble Arts Philly fall lineup of ‘online to stage’ presentations, from fellow podcasters MrBallen and Girls Gotta Eat, to online entertainers Pinky Patel and Dan & Phil.”

Sandbrook was educated at Oxford, St. Andrews, and Cambridge Universities and was an academic at the University of Sheffield before becoming a writer. He is best known for his histories of Britain since the 1950s; recently publishing Who Dares Wins, as well as series of history books for young readers, Adventures in Time. He has presented many documentaries on BBC Two and Radio 4, and is a columnist for The Times, a book critic for the Sunday Times, and a fellow of the Royal Historical Society.

Holland is an award-winning historian, translator, and broadcaster. His most recent book, Pax, covers the heyday of the Roman Empire. His first book of history, Rubicon: The Last Years of the Roman Republic, was published in 2003 and won the 2004 Hessell-Tiltman Prize, awarded to the best work of non-fiction of historical content. He has translated Herodotus and Suetonius, and written and presented several TV documentaries on subjects ranging from the Islamic State to dinosaurs. Holland has worked with the BBC to create and host historical television documentaries and presented the radio series Making History, and in 2016, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.

Other featured upcoming performances include An Evening with Ina Garten (October 9, 2024, Academy of Music); Hillary Clinton Live (October 10, 2024, Academy of Music); Mike Birbiglia: Please Stop the Ride (October 11, 2024, Academy of Music); MrBallen: The Strange, Dark & Mysterious Tour (October 12, 2024, Miller Theater); Brian Regan (October 18, 2024, Miller Theater); Adam Ray is Dr. Phil LIVE (October 25, 2024, Miller Theater); Tommy Tiernan: Tommedian (October 26, 2024, Perelman Theater); Girls Gotta Eat: No Crumbs Tour (October 26, 2024, Miller Theater); The Rocky Horror Picture Show 49th Anniversary Spectacular Tour with Barry Bostwick (October 29, 2024, Miller Theater); Eddie B: Teachers Only Comedy Tour (November 1, 2024, Miller Theater); Pinky Patel: #isaidwhatisaid Tour (November 2, 2024, Perelman Theater); Dan and Phil: Terrible Influence (November 8, 2024, Miller Theater); The Pasta Queen LIVE!
