KIMMEL CULTURAL CAMPUS PRESENTS COMEDY LEGEND, MONTY PYTHON CO-FOUNDER, AND “THE WORLD’S FUNNIEST MAN,” JOHN CLEESE, IN AN EVENING WITH THE LATE JOHN CLEESEOCTOBER 25, 2023

ACADEMY AWARD®, GOLDEN GLOBE® AWARD, AND GRAMMY® AWARD NOMINEE, PLUS BAFTA FILM & TV AWARD WINNER AND EMMY® AWARD WINNER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (September 13, 2023) – The Kimmel Cultural Campus, in association with Mills Entertainment, presents the versatile comedic actor and leading business motivator, John Cleese, for An Evening with the Late John Cleese at the Academy of Music on October 25, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. Come and pay your respects to one of the most iconic and beloved comedians of our time in a night of unparalleled laughter and wit.

Known for his impeccable timing, trademark eccentricity, and clever wordplay, John Cleese has solidified his position as nothing short of comedy royalty. With all-new routines, shaped by his decades of experience, Cleese showcases his observational humor and gifted storytelling in a way that only he can.

“John Cleese has captivated audiences around the globe for decades, sharing his unique brand of comedy and his invaluable insights on achieving success in education, business, and life,” said Matías Tarnopolsky, president and CEO of The Philadelphia Orchestra and Kimmel Center, Inc. “It is our pleasure to welcome this living legend to the Academy of Music where he will bring audiences together through the power of laughter.”

As the co-founder of Monty Python, Cleese is responsible for putting an indelible mark on the world of comedy. His work on groundbreaking projects like Monty Python's Flying Circus, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Life of Brian, Fawlty Towers, A Fish Called Wanda, and his notable roles in the James Bond and Harry Potter franchises have earned him global acclaim and a devoted fan base.

Cleese’s influence is also felt in the corporate world as the founder of Video Arts, the world’s largest provider of business training programs. Established in 1972 with three fellow British actors, Video Arts gained an international reputation as the premier source for business know-how. Cleese attributes his success at making hit training programs to his fascination with psychology and his love for teaching and making people laugh. He believes that “humor in training increases retention and decreases anxiety. When the training point is surrounded with humor, it can be readily digested, remembered and applied.” On the lecture stage, Cleese brings his award-winning series of videos to life. His boundless energy and inimitable sense of humor create a hilarious exploration of business basics, from corporate etiquette and customer service to creative thinking and problem solving.

In the fall of 2014, John released his New York Times best-selling memoir, So Anyway…. The book shares his ascent in the entertainment world, from his humble beginnings in a sleepy English town and his early comedic days at Cambridge University (with future Python partner Graham Chapman), to the founding of the landmark comedy troupe that would propel him to worldwide renown.

An Evening with the Late John Cleese promises to be a thrill-of-a-lifetime event that will have you laughing, marveling, and cherishing the moments of pure comedic brilliance.
